Currently, a smartphone can be bought by almost any user. Smartphones have been cheapened so much that they became a phenomenon and begin to represent a threat to existing classic phones.
Sure, if we talk about cheap smartphones we can’t expect the latest technical specifications, but they are suitable for those who are at the first acquisition of a smartphone, or just want to enjoy their advantage without spending large sums of money.
LG Optimus ME P350 – $120
This is one of the cheapest smartphones: for only $120, LG released the Optimus smartphone featuring a wide diagonal TFT display of 2.8″ that offers a 320×480 pixels resolution.
Connectivity is provided via 3G (lacking 7.2 Mbps download speed), Wi-Fi b/g, GPRS, Bluetooth 2.1, microUSB port and 140 MB of internal memory expandable via microSD cards up to 32GB. LG Optimus is also equipped with GPS system, and 3 MP photo camera. The phone is using Google Android 2.2 Froyo operating system.
Samsung Galaxy 5 I5500 – $130
Samsung offers the Galaxy smartphone for only $130. Based on the famous phones in Corby line, Galaxy 5 comes with a TFT display of 2.8″ which offers a resolution of 240×320 pixels, and a processor frequency of 600 MHz.
Some features are – 3G connectivity and Wi-Fi b/g, Bluetooth 3.0 and microUSB as well for local file transfer, while the memory of 170 MB is accompanied by a 1GB microSD card included in package. The operating system is Google Android 2.1 Eclair and there is little hope that it will receive an official update to the latest version.
Motorola Fire XT311 – $165
Motorola is found among the cheapest smartphones with equipped with a QWERTY keyboard and a display of 2.8″ with 320×240 pixels. Powered by a Qualcomm 600 MHz processor and 256 MB of RAM, this Motorola smartphone connects to the Internet via 3G, Wi-Fi and GPRS, and has local file transfer provided through Bluetooth 2.1 and microUSB.
Other features include GPS and 3.15 MP camera. The phone is equipped with the famous Google Android 2.3 Gingerbeard operating system, and his only major disadvantage is the low resolution display (like in many other cheap smartphones on this page)
Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini Pro – $185
Sony Ericsson makes its presence felt in this price segment with Xperia X10 Mini Pro model which comes with a QWERTY keyboard that is activated by sliding.
The 2.55″ TFT screen provides a resolution of (only) 240×320 pixels and 128 MB internal memory that can be extended by microSD cards. Otherwise, the technical facilities are already classics: 600 MHz processor, 3G, Wi-Fi, GPRS, Bluetooth and microUSB, and the camera has a good 5 MP photo/video camera.
Unfortunately, the operating system is the old Google Android 1.6, a version already exceeded, and an official software update is not in sight anytime soon for this phone.
Samsung Galaxy 3 I5800 – $200
Samsung has a large offer of cheap touchscreen smartphones, and the model Galaxy 3 is one of them, offering a nice display of 3.0″ with a good resolution of 240×400 pixels. Connectivity is provided by 3G (with download speeds of 3.6 Mbps), Wi-Fi b/g/n, GPRS, Bluetooth 2.1 and microUSB, it also comes with a 3 MP photo camera.
The phone features 256 MB of RAM, 512 MB of ROM memory plus microSD card slot and runs Google Android 2.1 Eclair operating system.
Nokia C5-03 – $210
The few remaining fans of Symbian are able to choose the cheap Nokia C5-03 smartphone, equipped with Symbian OS 9.4. Featuring a large display of 3.2″ that offers a generous resolution of 640×360 pixels, the internal memory is limited to only 40 MB.
Connectivity is provided by 3G, Wi-Fi, GPRS, Bluetooth 2.1 and microUSB, the camera has a resolution of 5 MP and the incorporated GPS system comes with free Nokia Maps software.

Mobile phone manufacturers are starting to launch ever more cheap touchscreen phones, driven by the growing demand from users, and market competition. At a glance, Samsung is the manufacturer offering many cheap smartphones.
